Description: The novel opens with Duvakin providing security at the Red October hotel. A sleepy nightshift position, he spends most of his time dealing with drunks and minor visitor complaints. When a murder occurs, he calls the KGB and thinks he has passed the problem on to someone else. When he stumbles across a substantial quantity of heroin stored in a Russian doll, he unintentionally deals himself back into the high stakes game.
